Over 160 farmers stood behind the humane treatment of pigs

The State Fund "Agriculture" provided State aid for the humane treatment of pigs in 2016 amounting to EUR 28 million. BGN 2.4 million has been paid so far in the form of non-recurring subsidies for sows. The support for humane treatment of pigs during the year is in three tranches. So far over 160 livestock farmers have submitted applications to the State Fund "Agriculture" for assistance with the humane breeding of nearly 670,000 pigs for fattening. A third tranche under the scheme is due in October. The aid covers costs incurred or loss of income associated with commitments related to the humane treatment of pigs entered, for a commitment period of at least 5 years. The State aid scheme is to be applied until the end of 2017.
