Today, the State Fund Agriculture and the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (IICT) at BAS signed a Memorandum of Cooperation and Partnership for Application of Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture. Targeted scientific and applied research regarding the application of artificial intelligence in agriculture will lead to a reduction in the expenses of farmers, improvement of the soil and water quality management, reduction of the use of fertilizers and pesticides, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, improvement of the biodiversity and creating a healthier environment.
The State Fund Agriculture and the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies at BAS made a commitment to join forces in order to realize the potential of the two organizations for the successful integration of artificial intelligence in agriculture. The Executive Director of SFA Boris Mihailov and the Director of IICT-BAS Prof. Doctor of mathematical sciences Galya Angelova declared their support for deepening the relations between science, institutions and business for the agricultural development by creating new innovative solutions and building a new intelligent infrastructure.
Representatives of SFA and IICT will participate in joint projects for construction of a Virtual Operational Center for overall management, coordination and control of intelligent infrastructures in crop production, set in the National Scientific Programme "Intelligent Crop Production", as well as construction of interfaces to external and legacy systems under the National Scientific Program "Intelligent Animal Husbandry".
